THE ULTIMATE UPLAND VEST | PHEASANT, QUAIL & UPLAND BIRDS | MIDWEST & CENTRAL U.S.

60 YEARS IN THE FIELDS. EVERY VEST AND BELT ON THE MARKET. NONE OF THEM WORKED. SO I BUILT MY OWN.

My name is Terry Koehler. I designed the Ultimate Bird Vest for serious dove hunters like you, who are not satisfied with the junk at Academy or belt rigs that are totally impractical.

Here’s why.

I shot my first dove with my dad before the training wheels came off my bike. That was over 65 years ago. I have hunted dove fields and ponds across Texas every season since, and along the way I've gone through more vests and belts than I can count.

I've spent hours walking an entire field helping a friend look for his cell phone that fell out of his pocket. We never found it.
I've used my pocket knife to cut the flaps off the shell pockets of a brand new vest right in the middle of the action because they kept hooking up on the velcro patches when I was trying to quickly get another two rounds into my over/under.

I've drunk from a water bottle covered with feathers because the game bag was the only place to put it. I've cleaned feathers out of my empties because I'm a reloader and there was nowhere to put them except in the game bag with my birds. And I can't tell you how many vests I've worn that felt like a plastic garbage bag in the September heat.

Sure, I’ve tried the belt rigs, too. They solve the heat issue, but pull your pants down and the shell and bird bags flop all over the place when you walk. If you are a serious bird hunter, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

I am not telling you this to complain. I am telling you because if you have hunted doves or upland birds for more than a season or two, you already know exactly what I mean. You have felt it. The vest that looked right in the catalog and let you down in the field. The belt that is a lousy compromise.

So, a few years back I decided I was done settling for it.

I spent two years developing the vest I actually wanted to wear. Not a committee decision. Not a focus group. Just one serious dove hunter who had tried everything the market offered and was tired of compromise, designing the vest he wished someone had built decades earlier.

  1. That vest is the Ultimate Bird Vest.

EIGHT THINGS EVERY OTHER VEST GOT WRONG, AND HOW I FIXED THEM

  1. 1. Unique Six-Way Adjustability

Adjustable shoulder straps plus horizontal adjustment at the front and both sides. I wanted to be able to fit a lean pre-teen on their first hunt and still fit his Dad with a jacket on in December. From youth to 3XL, one vest, always a perfect fit.

  1. 2. Cool and Comfortable in Real Heat

The strap design and mesh back are key, as I built this vest to be worn in September Texas heat, not a mild fall morning somewhere up north. If you have ever sweated through a vest by 8:30 a.m., you know why this mattered to me.

  1. 3. Spacious Shell Pouches That Actually Hold Your Shells

Flaps secure outside for extra security, but also tuck inside for fast reloading when the birds are working. I actually cut the flaps off prior vests because they were in the way, but then I couldn't secure my shells when they weren't.

  1. 4. Zippered Security Pockets

Tucked behind the shell pouches, secure protection for your phone, glasses, and anything else you do not want bouncing loose or falling out when you bend down for a bird.

  1. 5. Rear Accessory Pouch for Your Hulls

A two-way zipper lets you load it from either side, so you can leave the field exactly how you found it. That matters to me, it matters to the land owner, and I expect it matters to you too.

  1. 6. Washable Game Bag

After the hunt, you should be able to just wipe it down and move on with your day. So that is how I built it.

  1. 7. Water Bottle Holders Where They Should Be

Positioned directly under the shoulder straps so you barely notice they are there, holding up to 32oz on each side to keep you and your dog hydrated through a long morning in the field.

  1. 8. Built for 500 Hunts, Not One Season.

Every detail, quality materials and every stitch was chosen with one standard in mind. This could very well be the last vest you ever own.

DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT

With over 5,000 sold and not even one ever returned on our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. Reviews like this keep coming . . .

The Dove Gear vest is clearly made by hunters that have spent time in the field. It holds the weight of your gear perfectly without getting in the way. It stays cool, balances the load, and is a thoughtful design. The quality is rugged, expecting to get thrown into the back of my pickup 100 times this year. It will see the dove field as well as the ponds and bays for ducks.

The best constructed upland and five best I own and I've been hunting for 70 plus years. I have two. One camo and one blaze orange.

Never worn a vest before but I have to admit I like this. My game belts get heavy and clumsy with shells and birds, not the case with this vest as weight is more evenly distributed.

I am an older hunter with more girth around my midriff than I used to have. My previous bird hunting jackets and vests don't fit anymore. I needed something comfortable that can be easily adjusted from the T-shirt heat of September doves to the colder months where I will be wearing layers under a jacket. This strap bird vest design will get the job done. I like the feel of the load distribution.

Best Dove vest I have ever owned. Shells don't fall out of the pouches. Allows me to carry everything I need into the field. I opted for the water pouches, and they also double to carry training dummies. And it doubles as a dog training vest. Better than a bag carried on one shoulder.

What can I say, great vest. It holds a good amount of shells due to the spacious pockets on both sides. Good pocket to keep birds and that extra pocket in the back with zipper comes in clutch. Great vest overall, didn't get too hot on the hot opening day. Can wear it over anything really.

Only 2,000 vests for the 2026 season. Last year we sold out before the end of October.

THE VEST I WISH SOMEONE HAD BEEN ABLE TO GIVE ME 60 YEARS AGO.

Now it is yours, if you want it.

P.S. We have a limited number of these built for this season. If you have been on the fence, this is the year to stop hunting in a vest that lets you down.
